Three Ways to Feel Empowered in Your Life

The definition of “empower” is “to give the power to do something” or “to make someone more confident” in their ability to do a thing. The issue with some is that they are waiting on the next person to speak life into them, to motivate and inspire them, or to affirm them. Some people need a pat on the back or an applause from the audience to feel as if they are on the right track in this thing called life. The truth is, people possess more authority than they believe they do, including you.

 

Now, perform a quick inventory in your life. Are you motivated from within or empowered by the things around you? Are you confident in your own skin when you wake up in the morning or do you need validation from your loved ones and close friends to feel like you matter? It is okay to be honest with yourself about where you are. Being honest is the only way to get better and to make progress.

 

Because we as people are born with an intrinsic will to be happy and to create our reality when we do not feel as if we can perform at an optimal level or as if our existence is not making an impact, we feel defeated. In society today, there is no much noise always sounding that one can get distracted from the focus of self and to stay grounded, that is exactly what is needed. So, should you find yourself feeling your confidence in yourself wavering or feeling as if you don’t have as much control as you’d like to have, consider these three things:

 

  1. Take a few moments to reflect upon where you were this time last year just to see how far you’ve come.

You may not be exactly where you’d like to be right now, but take a moment to recognize that you’ve come a long was thus far. There may have been a point in time where you didn’t know how every part of your life would come together, but it has! And that’s progress. Based off that alone, you should feel empowered to forge on and continue to better yourself and your life.

 

  1. Do something that makes you feel good.

When was the last time you did something for yourself? As working people, we spend a lot of time being everything for everyone else and nothing for ourselves but make a decision to make a change to that. Take yourself to the spa. Give yourself a stay-cation for the weekend, meaning, get a hotel in your city for the weekend and behave as if you’re a tourist. You can also turn your phone off, shut down your laptop, and just exist without being connected to the world. This is a great way to reset your focus and gain a sense of self-awareness.

 

  1. Take inventory of your environment.

Studies show that the people you are around on a regular basis and the places you go influence your mood and your view of yourself. So, recognize who you have around you, the things you are listening to, the places you spend the most time and how those people, things or places make you feel. In order to feel as if you are winning at life, you have to be in environments that nourish your growth. And be willing to pluck out the weeds that don’t fuel your passion or fire.

 

It’s the little things that make the biggest impact. Shifting your focus to all the good you have in your life by empowering yourself can work wonders in your life. You were born with control and power. Walk in it. Feel it. And live it.
